Audi S2
Audi produced in 1991 a sports version of the 80/90 coupe. The production of the urquattro was ended in 1990, and S2 was the natural predecessor, with a very comparative technical base as the latter 20V 'RR' urquattros, being the inheritance of the 2.2T engine.

Originally only as a coupe, with an appearance much like the Audi coupe 20V. The engine was the "3B" with 220hp, 335Nm and distributor. The gearbox was the fivespeed version.

In 1993 things got altered for the S2. The cars were now adopting the "new" Audi 80 look, having integrated grilles into the bonnet, and from this very same year and to the end of production in 1996, it was offered with the same engine as found in urS4/S6 - the "ABY" with 230hp, 380Nm, coils and a sixspeed gearbox.
Besides just upgrading it's looks, Audi also introduced the S2 Avant and the very limited S2 sedan version (only 306 examples made), both having the "ABY" engine.

Performance is specified to the following:
S2 coupe 3B: 0-100km/h on 5.8sec, topspeed at 246km/h.
S2 sedan: N/A.
S2 Avant: 0-100km/h on 6.1sec, topspeed at 242km/t

Special editions

Along the S4/S6, also the S2 was offered in a tuned version by Schmidt MotorSport (SMS). The Revo-kits were built on factory cars, delivered directly to Cadolzburg to be tuned, before being given the customer. Not sure about the specifics, but it seems to be offered as SMS Revo (268hp) and SMS Revo (303hp). I'm guessing the 268hp version is a EPROM only upgrade, whereas the 303hp kit might be a bigger KKK turbo and 300kPa sensor (same as offered by MTM, as Roland Mayer of MTM did the programming for SMS).

quattro GmbH B1 (4.2 V8)

This car has no direct relation to turbocharged inlinefive Audis, but I choose to inform about it's existence on the same basis as the S2 and RS2.
It was simply a 4.2 V8 put in a Audi 80 based car, got no further information regarding this.

Audi wanted to take things further. Porsche was given the task of tweaking the S2 even more, to a high performing vehicle. It was most likly a natural choiche of using Porsche because of the familiarities within the leadership of the VW Audi Gruppe and Porsche, both having collaborated on previous projects. The modeldesignation was now changed from S to RS - or RennSport in german. All RS2 were fully built at Porsche's own factory in Zuffenhausen.

The RS2 was delivered with a upgraded engine, featuring a bigger KKK K24-7200 turbo, another exhaust manifold, bigger injectors, 300kPa sencor, resulting in 315hp and 410Nm. This giving the upgraded Avant 0-100km/h in 4.8sec. Since being built by Porsche, the RS2 does not include the german agreed topspeed-limiter at 250km/h, hence it's topspeed of 262km/h.

Besides the engine, Porsche's fingerprints are found on several optical and technical changes. The frontbumper had bigger airintakes and the integrated turnsignals, the headlamps with DE-lenses, sidemirrors, 7J17 5x130 cup-rims and Brembo-brakes were all from the Porsche 964. The all-reflex licencetub and different rearbumper also sets the RS2 apart from the "regular" S2 Avant.

At first only offered in nagaro blue, red and black, but later on more colors came available. Interiorwise it was proper Recaro-seats and a three-spoke steeringwheel (1994 version), different instruments and wood- or carbon details.

Only 2981 RS2s was produced. Audi AG even built one RS2 sedan, bearing the licenceplate IN-C 2246 (note: not four RS2 sedans as speculated in different foras etc).
